Besides Dingle?

My husband & I are heading to Ireland for the first time in May!

We had planned to stay two nights in Dingle, but it's proving nearly impossible to find lodging in Dingle. We need to revise our itinerary & I'm not really sure what to do.

Here's what we have so far:

Day 1: land/drive to Kilkenny
Day 2: Kilkenny/Rock of Cashel/drive to ???? (was supposed to be Dingle)
Day 3: ??? (was supposed to be Dingle)
Day 4: make way to Dublin
Day 5: Dublin
Day 6: Dublin
Day 7: fly out

We would really like the "??" to be coastal smaller towns, but I'm really open to anything. We had been drawn to Dingle because of the quaint village vibe we were getting from our research. We are open to Killarney, but have heard it's rather touristy.

Should we try to go north towards Galway?

Any suggestions welcome!

Is budget or a different necessity impacting your choices of Dingle accommodation? Maybe you also need to expand beyond the guidebook listings. If I test on booking.com for a generous "weekend" over May 11-14, for instance, I get 6 properties available that say they're in Dingle. One of those is the Milltown House, co-owned by our tour guide, Stephen McPhilemy.

We are going to be there May 22/23 & Milltown House is sold out. I wasn't actually using the guidebook recs, but rather was searching "Dingle Hotel" online. I realized when I searched for "Dingle B&B" I do get more (still limited) options.

If you are open to b&bs, we really enjoyed Garvey's farmhouse which is in Ventry just outside Dingle.

The Lighthouse in Dingle is awesome! We added a night to our stay we enjoyed it so much.

Agree with the Lighthouse, have stayed there three times and once at Cill Breach (can never spell it correctly). You can't go wrong with either one, lovely hosts, great food and immaculate rooms.

For your actual dates, booking.com suggests 14 [number corrected] options with double rooms available. I've found this to be a useful tool, even though I prefer to start with the book in most cases.
