Belfast to Howth for one night

My husband and I are traveling from Belfast to Howth for one night following our RS Best of Ireland Tour. We will be heading to the Dublin airport for our flight home the next morning. We were wondering if we should rent a car in Belfast and return it to the Dublin airport, or take a train or bus from Belfast to Howth and then a taxi to the airport the following morning. Would it be helpful to have a car in Howth to explore the town, or is it easily walkable? Any thoughts would be appreciated. We hope to get an early start from Belfast so we can spend the majority of the day in Howth. Our flight the following day is late in the morning. Thank you

There's a hefty one-way drop charge for renting a car in Belfast and then dropping it off in Dublin. Probably better to take the train down to Dublin Connolly station, from where you can connect to the DART directly into Howth.

Howth is pretty compact so a car is probably not needed. The DART doesn't go to the airport, so a taxi the next morning is probably your best bet. Might check with your hotel to see if the Airlink or another Airport shuttle service is available - might save you a few Euros versus a taxi.
