Belfast to Dublin: train or bus?

Ending tour in Belfast but flying out of Dublin the next day. Planning on COVID test before heading south, but what’s the better option: bus or train?

Bus is direct from bus center behind Europa hotel to Dublin airport, under 2 hours. Train is into Dublin, another 45 minute bus ride back to airport. Assuming nothing goes wrong, you cold bus that morning, but.. Getting through security and US preclearance could be upwards of 2 hours depending on time. I would recommend last night at one of the Dublin Airport hotels, which all have free shuttle service. And you can easily get your Covid test the day before at the random across from Dublin T2, then shuttle to your hotel.

If you are going to the airport and not central Dublin, my choice would be the coach.

If you do choose Dublin Airport hotel, I had a very positive experience at the Premier Inn. There is a cheap (I think it was 2 euros) shuttle with a regular schedule to the airport. The airport is about 5 minutes away.

FYI: we took bus and stayed at Clayton Hotel for next morning flight. Surly driver aside, worked out great. But top tip; make an online reservation. Two walk ups were accommodated on our trip, leaving about 10 hapless would be riders behind. Clayton’s offers free airport shuttle 24/7 and some nice food options.

Bus is easier between downtown Belfast and Dublin airport.
