Trying to decide if to head to Belfast on our last day to see the Titanic museum. Also, the same with the Ulster-American Folk Park but it may not be open the first week in October.
Where are you starting from, to get to Belfast?
I've been to the Titanic Museum in Belfast. It was important to me to see this, because I am a little bit obsessed with the story of the ship. But to be very honest, the best part of that visit wasn't the museum itself but the grounds outside of it. And I would not have made a dedicated trip to Belfast just to see the museum. We were there for other reasons as well.
Don't get me wrong. It's a lovely museum. The surrounding shipyards were the draw for me. But if you've seen any exhibit in the US which featured original artifacts, you may be disappointed in the museum at Belfast. Just my own opinion. YMMV.
My son and i took the train from Dublin to Belfast just last week as he really wanted to see the Titanic museum. It was just ok. It was super crowded. The audio guide wasn't quiet as good as I was hoping and the flow of the museum wasn't the best. If you are already in Belfast, I think it may be worth it but I wouldn't make special trip to see it. We also did a Back Cab tour while we were here and that was amazing.
Totally disagree with above posters about the Titanic Museum but then visited it in the off season (November) and crowds were non existent.
Would think in October few hordes as well. I think it's well done. I also enjoyed seeing how Belfast has evolved since my first stay in the early 90's. That whole area, the Titanic Quarter, was NOT AT ALL what it is now!!
Can't comment on the Ulster Folk Art Museum. Haven't see it.
Spend the day in Belfast. See the Titanic Museum, take the Black Cab tour of the Troubles, visit the Crumlin Road Gaol and do not miss the seafood chowder at Mournes by the Kelly Cellars Pub. Oh and St. Georges market is a fun look see.
Thank you all for the advice!
Titanic Belfast was an excellent museum. The focus is on the ship and building the ship, Belfast. There is info on the voyage, rescue, etc, but the emphasis is on the ship and it’s relationship to Belfast Shipyards and gives a new perspective. Go early and be there when it opens (9 am). The tour buses just keep rolling in after that.
HMS Caroline nearby is also worth your time.
