Belfast, Giant’s Causeway etc

My wife and I will be wrapping up five weeks in the UK by stopping over in Belfast for two nights. We would like to see the sights in Belfast as well as day tripping out to the Giants Causeway. Does anybody have advice on the best way to see the causeway?

We had a rental car and visited the causeway, Carrick a rede bridge, and Old Bushmills distillery all in the same day. The causeway and bridge are only a few miles apart.

The Causeway is a profound site to see. Based on my experience of visiting the Causeway a year or two ago, I would suggest.

  1. Definitely bundle up...a warm wooly scarf for your neck and an umbrella or waterproof jacket. I think many times that coast can be chilly and wet.

  2. Because you will be on transportation for a long time, make sure you pack a few munchies to eat; i.e., the protein bars, fruit, chips etc.

  3. Definitely pay for the Visitors Center. If you take public transportation, pay the Visitors' Entrance fee. If you take a tour, make sure the tour will include entrance into the Visitors' Center. It has a gift shop, food, clean restroom facilities, etc. You may only be at the Causeway one time in your life, and the Visitors' Center will add to the comfort of your trip.

  4. I hope you plan to visit the Titanic Museum when you are in Belfast. Enjoy.

Would only point out that the rest rooms are located inside the Visitor Center, so depending upon how urgent the situation may be the cost may seem like a bargain - it certainly did for us at the time. Everything else in there is easily skippable though.
An alternative might be to visit a nearby restaurant (believe it was "The Nook") which is separate from the Visitor Center for a cup of coffee or lunch, thereby being able to use their facilities. Could probably park there too since it's a very short walk to the tunnel entrance to the Causeway.

We did a private car tour, so we did a bit of customization, a combo of Giants Causeway and various Game of Thrones sites, with Bushmill's too.

So, if not parking at the car park and visitor's center there is parking in the area? Thanks!

Slightly off topic..... but, if you have Amazon prime video you may enjoy the short 11 minute film called "The Attendant" that takes place at the Giant's Causeway visitor center/parking lot area.
