Bed sizes on RS Ireland Tours?

Considering our first RS tour(s), either the Best of Ireland or Heart of Ireland (plus a week or so in Scotland). My husband is 6'4" and a shared American double bed (AKA "full") is a quick way to ruin a trip for us. If you've been on either of those tours, or stayed in the same hotels they use, what size beds did they typically have? We need queen, king, or in a pinch, two twins.

IMO, the biggest beds were "hotel queen" which is like a full size in the states. So, sounds like you'll be doing two twins. Good luck, and have a wonderful trip anyway.

There is no overall standard for bed sizes across European and EU countries, but in general, one difference from US beds is that the length does not vary with width, so a single is about the same length as a King Size in the US, So while you might sacrifice a bit of width, length should be OK.

Check with the tour office. You designate twin or double for your rooms. We have done the BO Ireland and I remember the double beds being more on the Queen size but they don’t always use the same hotels and the type of hotels they normally use do not always have cookie cutter rooms.

I can't comment on any hotels on this tour as I have not been on it. However I will say that king sized beds in hotels are a rarity in the UK and Ireland. They exist but are much less common than the US. Most hotel beds in this region are either a double/queen (which is the same here, at least as far as purchasing sheets is concerned) or two singles pushed together and made up as one.

This gives you an idea of what the different sizes equate to: https://www.mybedframes.co.uk/blog/uk-bed-sizes-the-bed-and-mattress-size-guide/

Have been to Ireland but not via a Rick Steves' tours, and was told that two of the places we stayed at (Dingle and Galway) are tour preferred accommodations, and the bed sizes seemed comparable to what we experience in the US and of good size (my husband is a mere 6' but expressed no issues). Our beds were queen sized in a double room (so two beds for the four of us). Your best bet would be to speak to the the company directly with this question if it is important to you prior to booking the tour.

I'm 6'2" and have never worried about it. My brother-in-law is 6'6" and he only has issues if the foot of the bed is against a wall, which only happened on a boat charter. He just lets his feet dangle.
