I learned about the CBP Preclearance checkpoint in Dublin for flights from Ireland to the US, which I believe eliminates the need to retrieve and recheck our bags when returning from Dublin, so now I am wondering about the outbound flight and the baggage logistics. Our outbound flight from LA to Dublin has a connection in Atlanta, so will we need to retrieve and recheck our luggage in Atlanta? I think the answer is no, ie, the baggage will get checked through to Dublin (barring a missed connection), but I wanted to confirm that in advance of our arrival at the airport for our departure from LAX.
As long as both flights are on one ticket, your bags should be checked through to DUB.
But it's best to make sure by looking at the baggage tag put on the bag itself.
Thanks, Frank. Itinerary is a single ticket for the outbound and return, which are both on a single locator number, so sounds like we're good to go (literally!).
The CBP pre clearance for travel from Ireland to the US has nothing to do with travel from the US to Ireland.
If your flights are on one ticket, your checked bags should go from LAX to baggage claim in Dublin.
