You can check with the tourist offices in each locale that you plan to visit.
Are you talking traditional like thatched-roof cottages?

Thanks! I'm looking for an online Ireland-based B&B site so I can peruse ahead of time. A web search found several, but I thought someone might have one they've used and could recommend.

Hi,

BandBIreland.com is a really good one. The most important thing I can recommend is this: don't book through Booking.com or Trivago.com or any of those sites. They all charge a fee to the B&B - usually around 15 euros. If you call the B&B directly, and tell them you're doing it to save them the commission, they will pass that savings on to YOU!!

Also - I've seen some websites SAY that a Guesthouse costs more than it does because they put the price at the highest room. For example, my neighbor in Waterville has a guesthouse. She has a "family room" with 4 beds and some of the sights have her price per room at THAT rate, instead of the real 2-person rate.... We've tried to correct it, but no joy!

Also - if you find a B&B (usually a house taking guests) or a Guesthouse (usually purpose-built so more community space, bathrooms in each room....) or a hotel that is "Failte Ireland" or "Tourism Ireland" approved that means it has gone through some pretty rigorous testing to qualify. There are plenty of REALLY good options that are not "approved" but are certainly wonderful places to stay. But the approved ones are practically a guarantee that they're good!

I hope this helps!

We have been looking at Air BNB, which we've used before, and we keep getting different prices for the same BnB's so we went directly to the towns website, contacted the owner ourselves and got a quote.
So, just saying, be aware! Good luck.

I know Air BnB is picking up over here.... There is a neighbor that does it, and she charges 72/night with brekfast, and gets rave reviews as she just loves entertaining and showing off her lovely home/farm. Another charges much less and is so "move em in and move em out" like a business that her reviews aren't so great. So Air BnB is certainly worth a look - but read the profiles and reviews carefully!

Also - electricity is VERY expensive here. So - the extra charge for that on Air BnB and weekly house rentals is worth confirming before the rental!!

I go to Booking.com filtering for a specific town or area. Then I look at a map of the area that shows different properties with tiny icons. Click on the icons one by one and you will see customer ratings and prices. It is easy to find great B&Be in Ireland.
