My husband and I are going to be in Ireland for only 4 nights. The first 2 nights are in Dublin and I am unsure where to spend the other 2 nights. I am thinking Dingle for the 3rd night and somewhere near Galway for 4th (or maybe even between Galway and Dublin as we have to get back to the Dublin airport the following day.) Any help is super appreciated :) feeling very overwhelmed by all the planning!
Driving from Dublin to Dingle is easily more than 5 hours. If you are taking public transit it's longer. Driving from Galway to Dublin is over two hours, transit is longer. If you are flying to the US, you preclear US immigration in Dublin. The suggested time to allow for Irish security and US immigration is 3 hours. If your flight is this summer, I would want to be at the airport more like 4 hours ahead of time. I would stay closer to Dublin, probably no further than Kilkenny or Belfast. And if I'm departing from Dublin to the US and the flight is in the morning, I would stay at an airport hotel the night before.
Agree with previous poster. You cannot do Dingle and Galway with your 2 nights. If you wanted you could take the train from Dublin to Galway and return. It's a 2.5 hr train trip.
I'd suggest Galway as your second base for such a short trip. You can spend a day in Connemara, or the Aran Islands, or the Burren/Cliffs of Moher from there. Much closer to Dublin in time, and also with direct bus service to or from DUB airport. Dingle is great but you don't have time for it.
