August packing list - what are the essentials?

I am heading over to Ireland for a week in the middle of August. I gather a raincoat would be a good idea but do I pack short sleeves or long and sweater or light tops?

What about footwear?

Thanks

Probably "yes" to all above. Your feet will get wet if it rains. It helps to have a second pair of shoes to wear while the first ones dry out. Take out arch supports and dry them separately. It can rain a lot in Ireland. I was there for a few weeks in 1985 and it rained almost every day. You get used to it!

Pack things that can be layered eg. short sleeve tops, sweater, waterproof jacket. I preferred light weight crop length pants to jeans. They dried out more quickly and avoided puddles. I wore a pair of sports/walking shoes and brought a pair of sandals that could withstand the rain. Buy a scarf, if you need it, for a souvenir.

We are in Ireland right now and all I can say is layers! I always have a short sleeve top on, add a sweater when the wind comes, add a water proof she'll when the mist comes, take it off after the 10 minute mist is over. Go back to my tshirt when the sun pokes through.. you get the idea :). Footwear wise, I have been alternating between my sketcher go walks and my toms

Thanks so much! Actually your post helps me a lot. I love my Toms and they dry quickly and are lightweight. Disnyou bring a full length (mid) raincoat? i have northface jacket is that enough?

I just have a waist length Columbia water proof she'll with a hood. I also have an umbrella but have only taken it out once in over a week. It usually just mists. Oh and a baseball cap :)

Don't bother bringing shorts at all. The Irish may wear them but I think most North Americans would not .. far too chilly! I wear mostly jeans and also yoga type pants and it seems to work. Bring a electricity converter that can handle more than one plug.. we always seem to have so many things to charge between phones, cameras, tablets etc.

Any else I can help with?
