Ashford Castle afternoon tea

Has anyone tried the Ashford Castle afternoon tea? I am curious if it is worth the rather high price. Also, has anyone taken children there for the tea? Thanks

jerry cant help with the tea but I would definitely suggest doing the hawk walk, would be cool with kids of any age!

I stayed at Ashford Castle, Ireland two years ago and it was the high point of the entire trip! The afternoon tea is awesome and the setting is even better, also we took the Falconry Class and it was something that my wife and I will always treasure. I travel light and stay in little mom & pop hotels like most Rick Steves converts but sometimes it's is nice to spend the money and enjoy a special experience. I would rank staying at Ashford Castle as one of the best experiences I've had over the last 10 years of traveling in Europe.

(Unless the children are teenagers I doubt they would appreciate the afternoon tea, but they would love the falconry class)

A third on the Hawk walk.. we took our kids last summer when they were 11 and 8 and they love it. The highlight of our 2 week Ireland trip. We also did Horse back riding and archery on the castle grounds. All were great experiences.

I cannot comment on the tea as we did not do it... we stayed at the Lodge at Ashford Castle and the food was amazing!

My husband and I stayed at Ashford Castle on our trip to Ireland 3 years ago. The service and accommodations were unmatched, however the price has taken a big jump recently. We are visiting Ireland again this Spring and were considering going back, but really cannot justify the expense. The tea service was lovely for sure. The food and the setting were spectacular. We will try tea at a number of other places during this two week trip. (Several of the towns we are visiting have hotels and estates that offer afternoon tea) The Hawk Walk was amazing and we had hoped to do this again as well. I really cannot say anything bad about Ashford Castle because it was all fantastic. It is just too indulgent and too out of the way to rationalize another visit this time around.

I'm another for doing the Hawk Walk, AWESOME! I too opted against the tea at Ashford due to expense. But if going to Galway at all, we did have a lovely tea at Cupan Tae.
