My family and I, husband, an 8 month old and 3 year old, will be visiting Ireland in August. We are planning on visiting the arran islands, specifically inishmore. My question is regarding transportation on the island...if we are planning on using the vans to get around the island, do I need to bring my own car seats and or is it required to have the children in them while traveling around the island ?
Hi Tiffany, I can't answer that question, but I just want to let you know that you may have a hard or impossible time getting up to the main attraction, the fort at the top of the cliffs called 'Dun Aengus.' You won't be able to use a stroller and I'm not sure your three year old can climb to it. Best bet would be a back carrier for the baby. It's a twenty minute walk and the last five minutes are steep with rocks, not a smooth walk. As for the van, my guess is that you can have both kids on your laps.
My family just visited Inishmoor on Tuesday (July 18th), but my kids are teens.
I was just at Dun Aengus a couple of weeks ago. I can vouch that the hike up to the fort is quite strenuous. The rocks are extremely slippery when it is raining or foggy. A lady on our RS tour slipped on a rock and got a nasty cut on her head that required medical attention. Also, the boat ride out there can be very rough.
