Ariel House Dublin, anyone stayed here? Other Recommendations?

Greetings!

We are trying to find a room for $200 or less in Dublin.

We are looking at the Ariel House and they do have a room available for our timeframe, it is approx. $145 a night and includes breakfast. This is a standard room and not in the main portion of the house...I think they have another building attached to the main house. They have gotten very good reviews on Trip Advisor and it looks very appealing, HOWEVER they said they were about a 30 minute walk in to town (which is not a problem) or the train is very close.
I usually like to stay centrally located while traveling but I also like to balance that with the cost of the room. After breakfast we are usually out sightseeing all day and don't return to the room till evening. That being said it is also nice to be able to "pop" back to your room if desired.

Has anyone stayed here and if so was the distance from town an issue? I will have to look up the cost of the train as that would add to the cost of the room as opposed to paying more for a centrally located room where we did not have to use the train.

OR, any other recommendation for a room in Dublin?

kse, what dates are you looking for? We have two groups looking at 3 different dates in June for a Dublin hotel. On two of our dates we had no trouble finding a hotel for a reasonable rate (<$200) but for the life of us we could not find a similarly priced hotel for the mid month weekend in Dublin. You may be running into some special event or weekends are just really booked up and prices are about 50% higher. Let us know your dates and perhaps we can help. Our "bargain" hotel is the Albany Hotel.

Mona,

Looks like I have found the error of my ways. I have been visiting this site regularly and jotting down hotels that people mention and then looking at reviews on Trip Advisor. For example someone recommended the Fitzwilliam...so I looked it up and it was 450 a night...unless I read that wrong and it was for all 3 nights. BUT, it seems there might be a confusion between the Fitzwilliam Hotel and the Fitzwilliam Townhouse (which is the one in the RS book). The townhouses are $501 (including breakfast) for 3 nights. Ah, the difference a word can make :):)

I am going to take a look at the Albany.

I would like a clean, safe place that isn't dreary to stay that is centrally located for less than $200/night.

Thank you for your response! BTW we are traveling in mid september

Dave,

The Tinode House does indeed look nice. It appears to be maybe 2 miles from the City Center?? And it sounds like the bus from the Airport stops very close to them. I hate to be skeptical but for the price, etc. It sounds almost to good to be true. Seems like we would only be losing about an hour a day riding the bus to and from the B&B. Lol...it was almost easier before I got the above mentioned recommendations.

Thank you everyone!

Dave,

Thank you for the link to the pictures. Looks like you had a great time. Were the pictures of the Murals in Derry?
Regarding the Tinode, it does look like it is easy to get from the airport there and into town. Did you happen to visit Kilmainham Gaol
from the B&B or did you have to go into town and catch a bus.
