My husband and I are arriving in Dublin on April 23rd and are renting a car to loop from Dublin to Kilkenny, Killarney, Limerick, and Galway. Can you please recommend if we should take the scenic coastal route from Dublin down to Kilkenny? Can you also recommend small towns with great pubs? Any breweries to recommend other than Guinness... What should we NOT miss while there for a week? We prefer going off the beaten path...Any recommendations would be appreciated.
For breweries, it seemed for a while that many of the microbrews in Ireland popped up, then died, but if you do some easy searching on the internet, then you could locate a number along your travels. In Kilkenny though there is the Smithwicks brewery which has a tour similar to Guinness (well Smithwicks is owned by the same company as Guinness) but worth a visit. Aside from that, the other major brewery is Beamish in Cork, then beyond that a list of microbrews.
Don't miss Glendough or the Gap of Dunloe. Enjoy a pint at Foxy John's in Dingle.
Try the Bulmer's. We love it and wish we could get it in the US. Foxy John's is a great pub in Dingle. We also like Dick Mack's there.
In Killarney, Murphy's Pub had excellent music at night.
