Anyone fly out of Shannon lately?

Anyone fly to the US out of Shannon lately?

I've heard that Dublin is awful with delays and lines...are things as bad at Shannon?

TIA

I too am flying into and out of Shannon (on United via Newark), but with checked baggage, in late July and late August. What's been the experience of others on that same routing with customs, TSA, baggage collection, flight delays, etc.?

It's been 6 years, but we've flown to the US from both Shannon and Dublin and much preferred our Shannon experience. As you probably know, both of those airports use USA Preclearance -- you have to go through immigration before going to your boarding area. This is not optional. You can't skip it and clear immigration on the USA end of the flight.

At Shannon the employees were helpful as a group of us arrived on a connecting flight and they gave us priority to get through in time for our outbound flight.

They were also compassionate with my husband, who struggled to remove his shoes (Ireland doesn't have the age exemption, or at least they didn't then, as US airports have for shoe removal). In the US I've had TSA folks yell at me when I try to assist my husband. At Shannon they positively encouraged helping him.

I flew into Shannon and out of Dublin in April/May on Aer Lingus.

Both were very quick experiences. YMMV!

I flew home from Shannon last Friday, June 17th. Arrived just before 9am for 12:30pm flight but had to wait until 9:30am for United to open check-in desk for the flight, then breezed right through. No line in security or customs (you clear US customs in Ireland). The flight itself was delayed because the aircraft was late arriving from Newark but no issues at all with the airport itself.

David-since my flight was delayed just over two hours I missed my connection in Newark. I got in the United customer service line when I landed to try to go standby on a later flight (last of the day) that was sold out but the line was very, very long and hardly moving. I noticed a QR code poster near the line so I tried that and ended up getting put on standby, then a confirmed seat within minutes. I arrived home Friday night but my luggage didn’t show up until Sunday night. Spent a very nervous Saturday wondering if/when they would find my bag. For my next flight in September I’m planning to buy an Apple AirTag to keep track of my luggage!

Flew out of Shannon last Friday, Shannon to Boston (June 17th). It's was great. I would fly in and out of Shannon next time. Such a nice easy airport (and a great duty free shop).

I flew into Shannon from the US July 4 and it was a delight compared to Dublin -- which I did in May. Haven't yet done the return trip, but given my experience earlier this month Shannon is now my choice of airports to fly into if at all possible. SOOO much easier to navigate than Dublin's craziness.

It’s interesting how the experiences have varied. We flew into Shannon in late June and out of Dublin July 5th, both on United. Both experiences went quickly and smoothly and although we were prepared for the nightmare we’d heard Dublin was, that didn’t materialize. We all checked luggage and it all arrived with us for all flights. Our flight home from Dublin was at 1:30pm and we arrived at the airport plenty early. That turned out not to be necessary but then I am a nervous flier and always arrive way before I probably need to. OTOH, I have never missed a flight! An unexpected perk was going through the US re-entry process in Dublin rather than Newark. They even honored my Global Entry.
