Any feedback on itinerary? And re: luggage locked in trunk?

Hi, we are disembarking from a cruise in Dublin in late July, and will spend 10 days seeing Ireland before flying home. We've never been, and this may be our only visit, so trying to see a lot in a somewhat faster-paced itinerary than usual for us, without overdoing it. Here is our current draft itinerary, would appreciate input as to feasibility and other suggestions.
Also, as we make some stops en route from one hotel to the next, how concerned should we be about leaving our luggage locked (out of sight, of course) in the trunk? I wouldn't do it in Sicily, for example, and perhaps not here in the US, but wouldn't hesitate at all in Japan.

2 nights Dublin, then rent a car at the airport and drive to Cork. Would like to stop en route to see Kilkenny Castle & town, and the Rock of Cashel, but not sure we can fit all that in - I believe the drive itself is about 5 hours?
2 nights Cork, with 1 full day to see the town. Want to take a break from driving, but maybe see one or more sights within a half hour's drive: Cobh, the Jameson Distillery, or Blarney Castle. Not feeling like Blarney is a must-do for us, I have no interest in kissing the stone and I've read it's not great for those with claustrophobia or fear of heights?
2 nights Dingle. Do the Slea Head drive one day, spend one day NOT driving (maybe a harbor cruise?) and seeing the town, relaxing at Pax guesthouse. (We have this booked, and availability is why we're going here then backtracking a bit to Killarney)
2 nights Killarney. Visit the national park, do the Gap of Dunloe jaunting cart/boat tour. Maybe a bit of the Ring of Kerry, but sadly this will be a bank holiday weekend and probably jammed. Also want to spend some time seeing the town.
1 night Adare, at Adare Manor. See Bunratty Castle and the town.
Final night in Dublin. If we feel up to it and the weather cooperates, will detour to see Cliffs of Moher this morning before heading back to Dublin. Otherwise, will look for other sights to see enroute.
(Note we are starting and ending in Dublin because we are leaving some excess baggage at the hotel during our week of touring.)
Thanks for any help!

I wouldn’t hesitate to have unseen luggage locked in the trunk, anywhere in Ireland. Same with Sicily - as long as there’s not a suitcase sitting in the back seat, or peeking out from under the back window shelf that sits behind the rear headrests in a hatchback, nobody’s going to pop your trunk in hopes of finding a stash of luggage.

We’re heading to South Africa in a few weeks, and we’re warned there not to let anyone see us putting baggage into the trunk, or ever having the trunk open in public, so that the contents can be seen, or that we can be seen putting luggage in it. But Ireland? No worries.

If you make it to Cliffs of Moher, they’re 800 feet from the edge down to the sea. If heights are any concern, enjoy viewing them from the visitor center, but don’t follow people out to O’Brien’s tower. The paths to the tower get pretty close to the cliff edge, and it’s a long way down, especially on a windy day, or if the grass is wet and slippery.

Having lived and owned a car in New York City, I made a habit of never opening the trunk at the location where I'm parking. I've known too many people who had the contents of their trunk stolen. If I need something in or out of the trunk (or hatchback), I take care of it at least a few blocks away from where I will park. It's an easy habit that provides a little peace of mind.

But, as Donna says, in most places in Ireland it's probably not a big risk if you realize you need something out of the trunk after you've parked.

Another thing to be aware of, turn off bluetooth on all bluetooth devices in your trunk. Thieves will use bluetooth to discover electronics, computers, phones, etc that could be hidden the car.

Thank you all for the reassurance regarding luggage in the trunk, and that's a great tip about Bluetooth!

My husband says the drive time between Dublin and Cork is a lot less than I thought, more like 3+ hours than 5, so I'm feeling more optimistic about fitting in stops at Kilkenny and the Rock of Cashel. Any other advice related to our itinerary?

I would never leave my luggage locked in the trunk. My brother on the way to southern France had his luggage stolen out of his car. They had it in there because their place was not ready yet. Luckily, a nice person interpreted for the police. The person who stole the luggage had a universal key fob and could open all the rental car trunks.

Feel totally safe leaving luggage in car in Ireland done it more times than can count. As someone above stated if you really want to feel safer get what you need from the trunk in different area than where you park the car. Of course anything can happen anywhere but Ireland has always seemed very safe to us.

I agree with the safety of traveling with your luggage in Ireland. But I think your husband is underestimating the time it will take to drive from Dublin airport to Cork.

i’ve driven from Dublin airport to Cork on the M8. Its about 3.5 hours with no stops.

And on the way from Killarney to Dingle see the Cliffs at Portmagee. Less crowded as just a good as the Cliffs of Moher.

Rather than Cork, stay in lovely seaside Kinsale.
I would not stay in Cork. What were you planning to do there on your full day? Much better to be in Kinsale!
I agree with skipping the Blarney Stone. However, I have a fear of heights and had no trouble hanging upside down to kiss it!
