My husband and I are over 70. Can we rent a car? I read something inrick Ireland book that we have to be under 70?
We’ve reserved a car through Autoeurope for September…picking up and dropping off in Belfast…we’re 72 and 74. Our reservation was seamless!
Some companies say 70 max, other say 75, and others say 75 and under without Doctor's note of fitness. Each company has it's own rules, which are spelled out somewhere in their T&Cs. As a 72 year old, I'm pretty careful to look when I rent.
Here's the blurb from the AutoEurope website:
"Ireland rental car age requirements are generally more strict than most other countries. The absolute minimum age allowed is 21, but most suppliers require a 23-25 year old minimum, and many will not rent to anyone over 75. If a driver under 25 is permitted, there will be a considerable extra fee (around €30 per day), and drivers over 75 are required to provide proof that they are in good health and have not been involved in any accidents in the past five years."
Age 70 shouldn't be a problem.
