Aer Lingus - Carry on Bag

I am confused by the Aer Lingus carry on policy. They offer a "Drop Option". Is that like what we would call "gate check" in the US? Would that mean that I take my bag to the boarding gate and they check it before I get on the plane? I asked the airline but they say they can't help because I booked through British Airways.

I would gladly pay the fee for priority boarding with my bag, but Aer Lingus won't sell me that option because I booked through British Airways. British Airways won't sell me that option because they don't operate the flight.

No, just google bag drop Aer Lingus, there’s a YouTube. It’s a self drop kiosk before you go thru security.

Applicable on Aer Lingus flights within Europe
Alternatively, drop your bag off at the check-in desk or bag drop kiosk (available in Dublin, Shannon and London) when check-in opens and collect it again at the bag carousel when you land. This option is free.
