Advice & Insights About The Galway International Arts Festival

Hi Friends,

I'll be heading to the Galway International Arts Festival in 2018 for 4-5 days, and have never been, and am interested in hearing from those who have been. In particular I welcome any travel, lodging & general do's and donut's of the festival itself, as well as your most memorable mounts and memories there as well as things to maybe avoid.

Also, any advice about maneuvering the festival and anything I should do way in advance e as a way of preparation would be most appreciated. Please share anything that you like about it, as well as things to see/visit in the surrounding region that might allow me to slip away for a few hours and enjoy local scenery, etc., and return in time for a full day/1/2 day and evening at the Galway Festival.
Thank you in advance!

Best regards,
Craig

I enjoyed the Galway International Arts Festival for a day (twenty years ago) and considered it a highlight of the trip. I especially love theater and happened upon some smaller, fringe shows and street performances that did not require booking ahead. Things seemed to be going on everywhere. But I assume that one should now book online for any bigger-name acts.
