Adding on to Heart of Ireland Tour

Hello!

This is one of my favorite places to be because it means that I am returning to Europe for a fun trip. This time around I am taking my 15-year-old daughter on the RS Heart of Ireland 8 day tour in mid-August 2023.

Before I purchase our flights, I am researching what else we might want to see that is not covered on that tour, which starts in Ennis and ends in Dublin. We will probably front-load our trip, so we have a buffer in getting ready for the school year. Here is what I am considering:

  • 2 days in Belfast
  • 1 night on the Aran Islands
  • 1 or 2 days in Dublin or surrounding area (at end of trip)

If I find that flying first to London is less expensive, then I would probably add on 2 nights there to do attend shows.

My biggest confusion right now is how to travel from Belfast to the Aran Islands without a car. It is best to take the train from Belfast to Galway, and do a shuttle/ferry to the islands from there? And then how do I reach Ennis? I would love insight on this please.

It’s been a few years, but we took the bus from Ennis to Galway and back and it was very easy to do. The bus station in Galway is centrally located and it was an easy walk from the bus station in Ennis to The Old Ground Hotel where our RS tour was staying. Galway had one of the better HopOn-HopOff buses for seeing the city.

Thanks, Patty!

It seems like going to Galway and the Aran Islands is worth it.

Now I am wondering if I should also visit the Giant's Causeway? I read several past posts and I am having a hard time deciding. I definitely want to visit Belfast, so it would be a day trip from there with either a tour company or public transportation.
