AC Power Adapters?

We are traveling to Ireland in two weeks and wondering if special AC adapters are necessary for charging our electronic devices?

Don't pack anything that isn't dual voltage. Then all you need is plug converters. Both north and south use British style plugs.

Yes

  • An adapter adapts the shape of your plug. You need one to adapt your North American plugs to fit in the British style sockets used in both parts of Ireland. An adapter does not change the electricity.

  • A voltage converter converts the electricity from 240V 50 Hz AC (European electricity) to 110V 60 Hz (North American electricity). The are big and heavy. You do not need one of these because most modern chargers for electronic devices work on both types of electricity.

You need to double check. Look at the plate on your chargers (the things you plug into the wall, not the electronic devices themselves), and check they says "110-230 V 550-60 Hz AC". If the say that, you are OK, you only need an adapter.
