A week in Dublin at the end of March

Hello good people,

I am going to Dublin for a week at the end of March and have a few questions you will hopefully be able to answer.

  1. If I am traveling pretty cheap, how much of a daily budget do you suggest for food and sightseeing?

  2. I'm too nervous to get a car and drive on the left side but I want to see some things outside the city, the Moher Cliffs. Do you know any good day trips? Or tour buses that make those trips?

  3. I am traveling with a friend who will be busy in the morning, any suggestions on good solo activities? I like to be active!

Thanks so much! I appreciate it!

I’m eager to see Replies because we are tentatively planning same. Might be April...We prefer off season so we can enjoy relaxing visit without heavy tourist traffic.

There are companies that do day tours from Dublin to the Cliffs of Moher - I saw Paddywagon Tours and Wild Rover Tours online, and there are several others - but if it were me, I'd want more time in the area, since it would otherwise be an awfully long time on the road for just one day. For instance, you could take the train to Galway, spend a couple of nights, and tour the natural areas from there.

I was on the western coast of Ireland last July (peak tourist season). The only heavy tourist traffic we encountered were at the Cliffs of Moher. Ireland is really lovely that way!
Newgrange is a much closer day trip to Dublin than the West coast. You might consider that instead.

As far as solo activities, anything goes. You will not have a problem chatting up the chatty Irish!

Seconding the suggestion to see the Cliffs of Moher via a short stay in Galway if possible. Also, try to be flexible regarding the day you’re going there; the cliffs can be entirely fogged in at times.

I almost want to cringe when I see your post.....

The first Rick Steves post I read was a woman going to Dublin for 4 nights, then Galway for 4 nights, and was doing the Cliffs of Moher bus tour from Dublin. Wondered if she had looked at a map..... and asked her, such.

The Cliffs of Moher are no where near Dublin. It would be like visiting New York for a week and saying "I'd like to see Baltimore Harbor while I'm there." Enjoy Dublin or at the most,Dublin and the East Coast area (Dun Laoghaire - Howth - Bray) -- or say "I'm going to Ireland for a week" and acknowledge that you're going all over. But if you want to spend a week in Dublin, you'll not be going to the Cliffs of Moher!

(Besides all that - The Kerry Cliffs are better than the Cliffs of Moher!)
