9 days in Ireland, 2 "bases" and no car

Hello Travelers,
We are excited to take our young teen daughter to Ireland in June. This trip was her choice as she loves mystical stories of magic and fairies.

We have 9 days, flying into Dublin and then onto Amsterdam (but from where??:-). I am thinking it would be good to have Dublin as a base for few days and then move to an area such as Cork for a few days so that we can fly to Amsterdam directly without traveling back to Dublin. Does that make sense? Any other suggestions for a second base?

So far, she knows she wants to go to Trinity College, The Hill of Tara and New Grange. We love guided tours, museums, castles, costume/ living history, and such.

As for me, I spent a week in an Irish village back in the 90's and the true highlight of that trip was seeking out traditional music nights in surrounding towns. This time, though, we will not have a car, and I'm imagining we'll be more confined to larger cities with public transport.

We would love to have your tips and ideas for experiences in the Dublin area as well as Cork (or another idea for a base near a large airport).

Thank you

We are going there later this week (after Croatia) and making our bases Belfast and Dublin, although if we weren’t going to Northern Ireland, we had considered Kilkenny or Galway.

In addition to Newgrange, we are doing a tour that goes to the Rock of Cashel, Blarney Castle, and, I think, Cahir Castle.
