How many days early are you going to have before the tour starts? If you have 2-3 days, I would consider going to Bunratty Castle and folk park for a afternoon and book the medieval banquet for the evening ( must be done ahead of time). There are multiple bed and breakfast's in Bunratty, just google.

Bunratty Castle is worth seeing, and if you feel like a splurge there is always the 5 star Dromoland Castle.
I'd consider going to Galway for a few nights, if its fun your looking for! Maybe a day trip to the Aran Islands?
