7 Days on the Emerald Isle

Looking for help on my itinerary for October of this year. All ideas are totally appreciated. I have a basic outline and need ideas of what are "must sees"! Is this realistic? Thanks so much in advance.

Day 1: Early morning flight from Edinburgh to Cork.
Drive to Kenmare. Sleep in Kenmare.

Day 2: Ring of Kerry
Where to sleep?

Day 3 &4: Drive to Galway
Stay in Galway 2 nights?

Day 5: Galway to Newgrange
See everything in-between and arrive Dublin in evening and drop car at airport.

Day 6 & 7 in Dublin

Flight home morning of day 8.

Thanks!

Janet

What are you interested in? The 'must sees' vary with each person... I would go to Dingle, Doolin, wander the side roads and check out all the pubs. Others would like the castles, folk parks and museums. For me, just to be in Ireland is enough but I realize others are not as laid back.

"Must sees" are hard to say without knowing your interests. Personally, Dingle was one of my favorite areas and it's not on your list, but everything you do have on your list will be enjoyable and worthwhile as well.

On Day 1, you might want to pop into Cobh before heading in the direction of Kenmare. Then you could follow N71 for a longer but more interesting drive to Kenmare.

Night 2 sleeping location depends on how fast you want to move. If you want to linger on the ROK all day, maybe stay in Kenmare again. Or you could see the part of ROK in Killarney National Park on Day 1, then on Day 2 head southwest from Kenmare around the coast and spend the night somewhere around Tralee, which puts you on your way to Galway ... or up to the Limerick/Bunratty area, though that makes for a longer driving day.

Thank you! We want to see the beautiful countryside, a castle or two (not all of them) and cute towns. I appreciate the Tralee suggestion.

I am ok with doing 1/2 to 3/4 of the ROK and then setting us up for the Dingle Peninsula the next day.

We stayed in Kenmare for our Ring of Kerry, Beara Peninsula time. We did two weeks in Ireland in late April. I really enjoyed the Ashfield B&B in Kenmare, good price, great food, good location, friendly people. We hired Paul Brown for a private tour of the Ring of Kerry and it was awesome. I did most of our driving while in Ireland and having Paul tour us around for one day was the best decision I made the whole trip. It allowed me to relax and view the scenery, learn about west Ireland from a guy that has lived and worked there his entire life. Paul helped me plan my driving tour of Beara Peninsula the next day. You might consider Paul if you want to hit the best spots on the ROK with little stress of the drive. Kenmare was a good spot to stay for both of those drives. We also spent 4 days up in Dingle and it also is a great location for touring Slea Head and the Dingle Peninsula, Brownes B&B was great as was Dingle town. For me spending some extra bucks for the private tour of ROK was the best investment I made for my long planned trip to Ireland. I can give you contact information if you want to PM me, we also went up to Doolin for music and the Cliffs of Moher.
