My husband and I have a 6 hour layover in Dublin. Is that enough time to leave airport and see some sights. We arrive at 5:15 am. Any suggestions would be appreciated. We’d really love to experience Ireland even if briefly.
I had the same 6 hour layover in Dublin a few years back and I remember looking into whether to just stay in the airport or to try and get into Dublin for a few hours. In the end I chose to stay in the airport as I thought I wouldn't be able to experience much with the time I had and I would be constantly checking the time and worrying about getting back, which isn't exactly relaxing and fun. Especially with your arrival time, I personally would just stay in the airport as things won't be opening up until a few hours after you arrive anyway.
Where are you going to from Dublin? If the U.S., remember you do pre-clearance (US immigration and customs) in Dublin. You will need extra time for that
We are headed to Lyon. This is our first time flying through Dublin.
Personally, I'd stay at the airport and relax. I know that is not what you want to hear, but by the time you get into Dublin, you'll have to turn around and there's not much to see in Dublin at that hour. Plus you'll be stressed about catching the bus back to DUB and getting through security and customs/passport control. Have breakfast, do a little shopping, buy a newspaper, talk to some locals in the shops. And plan a trip to Ireland for next year.
Thanks everyone for the quick responses. Sounds like a good plan to hangout at the airport. We will plan a few days in Dublin before heading to France next trip. Happy and safe travels!
We have a 6 hr layover in Dublin as well and we’re wondering the same thing. I have a Priority Pass for lounges so, based on the responses, we will hang out at the airport as well.
