3 days 4 nights in County Donegal

Fellow travelers,

We plan to fly in and out of Donegal Airport in early October. Reservations not made yet. We plan to rent a car at the airport.. Wanted to know if it would be best to use one hotel, B&B, etc. for all 4 nights or split it up 2 nights near Donegal Town and maybe 2 nights near Dunfanaghy or Glenveagh National Park. Do not want to miss seeing Slieve League, Glencolumbkille, Ardara, the National Park and Dunfanaghy Workhouse and drive the Wild Atlantic Way a bit.

We are seniors so we won't be taking any 5 or 10 mile hikes, but shorter ones are not out of the question. If there are other sights to experience please don't hesitate to suggest.

Thank you in advance for any help!

Dave

We spent a week in a cottage near Killybegs and saw all the places you mention from there except the workhouse. Check out Dunlewy Chapel in Poisoned Glen, a beautiful remote setting. The drive out to An Port feels like the edge of the world.

We were in Dunfabaghy for two nights and Donegal Town for two more in 2023, and enjoyed both stays (except Dunfanaghy didn't have any music on our nights).

Not knowing how much time you have on the travel days, you could spend one day in Donegal visiting the Abbey, Salthill Garden, Donegal Castle, and maybe a walking tour. Then travel from Donegal to Slieve League, Glencomankille, Glengesh, Assaranca Waterfall to Dunfanaghy. A nice loop drive includes Doe Castle, Glenveagh NP, Ray Church, The Workhouse, Lurgabrack Reserve, and Horn Head.

We're also seniors and enjoy hikes under 3-4 miles. My wife is a Master Gardener and absolutely loved Salthill, mainly because the owner was working in the garden and was very chatty. Don't miss the Reel Inn for some trad music.

Dear Fellow Travelers -

Thank you so much for your comments and suggestions for visiting sights that we knew nothing about. We may have to stay another night to see everything.

Again, thank you so much.

Cheers,

Dave
