This is our second and third trip for some. We will be in Ireland for 7 nights and would like to repeat Kilkenny see Galway for the first time and Belfast. Touring Dublin for the first 3 days we would like to do 3 separate day trips to Galway, Kilkenny and Belfast (and anywhere in between). We can rent a car and or take train (very experienced European driver). Our trip being in November will limit day light hours but we like to pack a lot in to our days very early risers and late night owls......Thought of driving to Galway day 1, and Kilkenny on day 2 then possible the train to Belfast just for the experience. Family of 4 (mom dad and kids 20 & 18) We have already done the Cliffs, Dingle, ring of Kerry the blarney Kilarney, Kinsale, Kildare and Kilkenny. As always open to suggestions of anything fun to see this time around... museums are not a favorite...Thanks
While visiting in/around Kilkenny (May 2018) we greatly enjoyed 3 nights at the Lawcus Farm Guesthouse, about 15 minutes south. It's mentioned favorably in Rick's book. It's a small working farm with beautiful grounds on the Kings River, friendly and photogenic critters, and memorable hospitality (and amazing, made to order breakfasts by the charming Anne-Marie.) Since you've already seen some of Kilkenny, this might be a nice base for your return. Jerpoint Abbey and Kell's Priory (ruins, not museums) are nearby and worth an hour or so, each.
