24 hours in Dublin at years end

We (active retirement age) are overnighting in Dublin at the end of December. Arriving on the 29th at 13:20, flying on to the US at 14:15 on Saturday the 30th.

We spent our last day in Dublin at the Guinness time suck, not doing that again. Looking for suggestions in how best to spend our time. No room booked yet, so suggestions for that as well would be appreciated.

Thanks, Lynda and Dennis

If you have not done Kilmainham Gaol, I would highly recommend. You must pre-purchase tickets on their site as the tours sell out.

We also really enjoyed the Book of Kells and Long Library at Trinity College.

You drink the nectar of the gods not tour the facilities.

And stay of way from the tourist trap known as Temple Bar.

Book of Kells at Trinity or the National Museum of Archeology.

We did the Musical Pub Crawl that RS recommends and it was great fun. It starts in Temple Bar so you get a look at the place, but moves on. It was a very good experience if you're interested in Irish music and instruments. There is bar service in each place you meet, but you're not required to purchase alcohol.

We stayed at the Westin because we had points to use. It's ideally located right next to Trinity College so easy to get to Book of Kells, Grafton Street, and area museums on foot.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I looked at the opening hours of the Kilmainham Gaol, but with the early closing hours in winter, I'm not sure we could make it, and it might be dicey to try to make it in the morning before our return flight to the USA.

Beer will be drunk... Love the Book of Kells, but will probably not visit this year, I've seen it twice in the past, so no real urgency.

Music/pub crawl, good idea. might be just the ticket..
