24 hours in Dublin

This October my husband and I are transiting through Dublin on our return to the US after a 3-week Central Europe trip. We arrive in DUB at 9:30 on a Sunday morning and take off for Newark about 24 hours later. We've been to Dublin before and know how we want to spend our day in the city.

The question is whether we should get an airport hotel or stay in town. I made a changeable reservation at the Grafton Hotel. It would be more fun to stay there, go out during the day, relax before dinner and then go out on the town.

If we stay near the airport it means being in town all day into the evening without a break. But just a short hop to the airport in the morning sounds lovely. We have to check bags (we have sports equipment you can't carry on board) which takes time. On the other hand we have United Gold status and Global Entry. I checked and there are Global Entry kiosks in Dublin Airport, as part of the US Customs there.

Do we need to be at the airport at 6:30 on a Monday morning in October? There are pros and cons to both choices and wondering what you travelers with Dublin experience advise. Thanks!

Given your United status and Global Entry t's a close call as to whether you will need to be at the airport 3 hours before departure. I tend to err on the side of caution so if it was me, I'd be there 3 hours ahead. I would still probably stay in Dublin the night before. The cab ride will be quick (maybe ask the hotel to pre-book a cab for you) and you can grab breakfast at the airport. One thing to consider is that after US immigration services (food, duty free, etc.) are very limited. So if you don't have access to the lounge (it's shared by all the US departures), grab something before US immigration.

Agreed...long lines and very busy. You can stay in town I think but provide enough time to get to airport next day.
