What's the weather been like in Ireland this spring and summer? I've been there many times since 1988 (July-early October) when early mornings and nights were always chilly to cool, daytime temperatures in the 50s-60s and light, intermittent rain was a regular occurrence. All my travels were along the coasts, mostly in the West.
On my last trip in 2022 though, climate change had arrived with a vengeance. I bicycled around the island's perimeter for a month in mid-summer and experienced rainfall on only two or three days. Worse still, daytime highs were often in the 70s-low 80s and gone were those pleasantly cool mornings and nights.
Was this an anomaly or a dramatic shift in the country's weather pattern? I'm planning to bike again along the West Coast sometime between April and early June of 2027, hopeful for those cool days and nights once more.
