My husband, 13 year old son and I will be visiting and I am trying to find a B&B to stay in. Donegal Town might be best, but also open to other towns that are a bit lively. We want to stay 2 nights in the same place. We'll be visiting Mountcharles, Sliabh Liag, The Rosses so north and west really. It's been a while since we've been to Ireland and I guess the days of finding a place as you traveled are long gone! I'm having a hard time picking a town and finding smaller places to book with directly. Thanks for any help.
We spent two nights in Donegal last May, staying in the Atlantic Guest House. The accommodations and breakfast were fine. If you can't find something on Booking.com or Google Maps, you can stroll around town using Google Maps Streetview and read signs on buildings to get ideas for alternatives that don't participate in the internet game of fees.
Thank you! The Atlantic Guest house was booked for our dates, it did look good. Street view is a great idea! I searched for hours and ended up finding a place a few miles outside of town. Once we booked and looked through pictures we realized it is the place we stayed when we went to Donegal 20+ years ago! I had been lamenting that I couldn't remember the name, just that everyone in town called it "Sheila's place". They've expanded and it looked different in the first picture, but it is definitely the same place so we're really happy. Only in Ireland. LOL
For anyone else looking - we booked The Gap Lodge. Very convenient to Donegal Town. I will update when we get back, but we have great memories of it.
Any updates/reviews?
We leave next week!
