Hello,
We will be spending 2 days in Dublin, then 3 days in Galway, then another day in Dublin.
We would like to go on a trip somewhere just outside Dublin.
We can't decide if we should go north or south. It is 2 adults and one twelve year old boy, that won't want to be stuck on a bus all day.
Can someone recommend a day tour company out of Dublin? I looked at Ireland Chauffeur Travel and they are expensive. We are willing to pay but it needs to be worth it.
Can someone recommend a private day tour of Ireland?

Have you considered Belfast? IMO, it gives one a completely different perspective on Ireland when you add Northern Ireland to whatever you are doing in Ireland.

Have you looked at the RS Ireland book for suggestions. There you may find a lot and then if you are unsure, you can ask your questions about the tours to see if people went on them. There is a lot to see and do in Dublin as I spend 4 days there before my RS Ireland tour.
