Blasket Islands

We are going to be spending the last five nights of our vacation in early September on the west coast. We definitely will spend 2 nights in Galway and the last night near the Shannon Airport. That leaves 2 nights - thoughts on traveling down the coast to see the Blasket Islands? We already saw Dingle a few years ago and absolutely loved it. Or should we spend our remaining 2 nights touring nearer to Galway so we're not spending a lot of time in the car (West Port or Clifden) or the Aran Islands?

I think it depends on how interested you are in the history of the Blaskets. If you know about the people, their literature and the removal from the islands, go there. If not, the Aran Islands are a better choice.Have you been to the Blasket Centre in Dunquin, which gives a very thorough history and is quite attractive? Be aware that the boat to the Blaskets will not run in bad weather. It is very possible that it may not run on the few days that you are there. I also do not know if it runs throughout September; best to Google this. If you go the Galway option, the Aran Islans are a good choice, as is Clifton or Leenane. Oughterard is a pretty town. Look up Bridget's Garden in Roscahill to see if that interests you. The Craft Center in Spiddal is quite nice. Look up the Invagh Valley in Connemara (unsure of the spelling) for a beautiful drive. Hope this helps.
