I can’t seem to search the forum, so I’ll start my own question. My sister and I are meeting up in Ireland for 10 days, flying in and out of Shannon. I’ve loved reading about the go slow approach to Ireland and wanted to get an idea of your favorite places within 5-8 hours drive of the Shannon area. We’re in our 30’s, she loves hiking and I love photography. Any favorite b&b’s and drives too, as we’ll rent a car. We haven’t made any plans, except our flights, first week of September.
Easy answer...Dingle Pennisula. Killarney National Park. Gap of Dunloe.
Get the RS Ireland. guidebook. Truly helpful in helping first time visitors make decisions about itinerary.

For us Dingle and previous options great.....we though love the Skellig Ring (gorgeous and NO tour buses) insane scenery, great hikes, history, great pubs and restaurants.....south side of the ROK....scenery, villages, peaceful and beautiful. Plus if you stay in the area you can avoid tourist gatherings easily.
Also from Shannon it's a pretty easy visit to the Aran islands. Loved Inishsheer ......pony cart ride so fun. Inishmor is a little touristy at the docks but still great. Dun Anghosa is fantastic. Spend the night out there and go to Anghosa early in the day before any crowds. The cliff views there are better than Moher. We sat there ALONE early one day and it was a LIFE highlight !!!!!
You'll have a fantastic trip. Enjoy the Irish people they are so warm, welcoming and funny. We aren't terribly outgoing but if you can laugh at yourself you will be welcomed with open arms and we ended up invited to homes for tea and scones, one dinner, a bought pint or two from a fisherman telling us sea stories of his Dad and Grandfather, and an afternoon of helping a farmer feed his horses and goats !!! All memories that are truly priceless.
Have fun !!!!!
