1 night stop advice

We are flying into Dublin at 830am but won't be staying in Dublin until the end of our trip. Our plan is to drive from Dublin to Dingle and break up the drive by staying one night along the way. I've looked at few road maps and done some goggling but this is my first trip to Ireland. I'm just not sure what would be a good place to stop that isn't to far out of the way. Thanks!

Hopefully you won’t be trying to drive on the opposite side of the road ( In Ireland you drive on the left) when you’re jet lagged right after a Transatlantic flight.

Drive from the Airport to Kilkenny. It is an hour and half drive and there is a lot to do in Kilkenny. From there it is 3-4 hours to Dingle/

How about taking the bus from the airport to Galway (or Limerick or Tralee), spend the night there and pick up the rental car in the morning? You can either return it in Dublin or return it to where you got it and take the train to Dublin. Or fly into Shannon and go directly to Dingle.

Kilkenny is medieval city that has lots to offer. You can be there by early afternoon, walk about, have dinner and fabulous live music at the 14th Century pub Kytelers , and be on your way in the morning with plenty of great first-day memories. The Castle Lodge B&B is a nice accommodation for the purpose [free private parking and 10-15 minute walk to the city center] The Rock of Cashel [if you're interested] will be pretty much right on your way to Dingle from there. Have fun and let me add [since it's your first trip] that whenever you make a brief stop, mentally rehearse what you need to do to get into the correct lane, before you do it. Happy travels!

We arrived at the airport around the same time and left the rental facility with our car at around 9:15 am. We drove directly to our destination, west of Killarney (316 km, compared with 351 km to Dingle), with at least 1.5 hours spent in Adare along the way. It's a pleasant place to stop for a break (much more manageable than Limerick) and perhaps stroll the Adare Riverbank Walk. I was the sole driver and found it very manageable. I have driven on the left side of the road a couple of times before.

All the best with your travels.
