1 day scenic drive Kinsale to Kenmare

Hi Everyone!

My fiancé and I are visiting Ireland in April and we have one day to drive from Kinsale to Kenmare and would like to see part of the coastal route. We would really appreciate some advice on what is doable at a pace where we can appreciate the scenery and not be rushing. The general consensus seems to be that Google Maps greatly underestimates the time it takes to drive the route so we don't want to take on too much. Is there any particular route you have taken in a day that worked out well? Route maps from previous trips would be amazing, but any general advice would be grand too ;)

We definitely don't want to just drive the shortest route!

It's not a terribly long drive, but I like to make lots of stops to get out and stretch my legs. We broke it up with stops in Clonakilty and Skibbereen, and a couple of short detours between Bantry and Glengariff for coast views.

It’s an easy drive to do in a day, and it is the route we always take from Kinsale to Kenmare. As you come out of Rosscarberry, take the dip down toward Glandore. You will come around a turn to see Union Hall down below, and I think it is one of the prettiest scenes in Ireland. Be sure to get out to Mizen Head, too!

Glengarriff is beautiful!
If you get an early enough start, maybe explore a bit of the Beara peninsula, too?

What do you like to do? There are amazing cheese producers in that area; stone carvers; more.....
