My daughter and I are doing the Ring Road with a rented car in mid-to-late May 2025. We will be coming from the Skalafell Guesthouse to do a glacier walk.. 2 companies start at the Skaftafell National Park ( Icelandic Mountain Guides and Arctic Adventures) while a 3rd company called Troll Expeditions starts in Hoff , which would be less driving time for us than to go to the national park in the morninig. However, Troll says that this departure point is colder and more windy than the other one due to higher elevation. Just wondering if we would miss a lot by not going all the way to the national park ? And also, is the walk that much different from the other two starting at the park? Thanks.
Icelandic Mountain Guides are who actually run these glacier hikes. They are the ones with the certified guides. Troll and Arctic Adventures you can book through them, but they do not run the excursions. We did the Solheimajokull glacier hike and booked with Troll since we were on a day tour with them. This was in February, so we did not want to drive all the way up the south coast ourselves. Troll is very good at what they do, so don't get me wrong, but the guides will actually be IMG.
Thank you. So I guess it does not matter who I book with, it will be the IMG guides anyways...so I'll choose the best times and locations for us then. Thanks!
If you are driving and don't need to be picked up, you can book directly with IMG.
