Any idea why Rick Steves avoids this area?
The day trips from Reykjavík look at least as good as the South coast tours from what I can find on the web.
I'm debating taking organized trip out vs renting a car and staying overnight.
We have 4 nights in Iceland on the way home from Norway, mid July.
We just returned home from 22 day road trip of Iceland. We drove to Snaefellsnes Peninsula and stayed one night in Arnarstapi. Beautiful. We also visited the south. Two vastly different areas. Going south you will see more of the popular sights. Going north you will also have to deal with paying for the tunnel toll online using your credit card within 3 hrs of your drive thru as there is no toll plaza. No tolls south.
