US credit card in Iceland

Hi,
Can travelers help us figure out if we need a PIN to use our credit cards in Iceland? We do not use PINs in the US (nor in any of our travels to Europe), but we want to be sure that we are all set to use our credit cards while on holiday. Prefer not to use debit cards.

Thanks for any help.

I was in Iceland for the fifth or sixth time (I'm not sure) earlier this month. My cards are contactless. No need for a pin.

If your cards are not contactless, see if you can get one from your card issuer. If you can't, then you might only need a pin at gas stations. Everywhere else you will be asked to sign a receipt.

But contactless via a card or Google Pay/Apple Pay is the way to go.

Thanks so much for the quick reply.
We use tap cards (contactless, yes?). So, we could use these at gas stations as well, yes?

I can't answer the question about gas stations because I don't rent cars.

Yes, tap and contactless are the same thing.

I can tell you that I used "Google Pay" for every purchase I made in Iceland and never had a problem.

I make a point of having the PIN for all of my credit card. Sort of ultimate back up for cash if my debit cards fail. Just embed the pin number on the card so that I have it if needed.

We have been many times and sometimes we need a pin, but most of the time we just tap the cards or use Apple Pay. The gas stations are all different, and it can be anything. We normally rent a car and have never found a consistent way to pay.
