Two weeks but no ring road

Hi all.

We are going to Iceland for two weeks at the end of May.

We are trying not to spend more than 3 hours per day driving from one area to the next.

Thinking from past experience, 2-3 nights in an area, rather than a new accommodation every night.

We want to visit Vik, but also some of the Westfjords area, and maybe Mytvan and Akureyri. Other than that, I’m not too sure where else to spend time.

Bought the Iceland book and will read for sure.

But has anyone gone to the west, south and east by backtracking?

Final night will be spent in Reykjavík. Any guidance would be appreciated.

I don't have specific advice for you you as far as destinations, but you might look at some of the itineraries for self-drive tours to get some ideas. We used Nordic Visitor with a great experience, but you can just peruse the routes. We did the South and West Island Classic, 8 days and 7 nights. You could add the West Fjords and Akureyi to that. Another poster is going to use the company Hey Iceland. If you Google 'self drive Iceland', you can get other ideas and adapt them to what you want. I would do it soon though, because Iceland is popular.
