Transiting KEF with new biometric screening

We will be trasniting KEF with only a 45 min layover due to a flight change. RDU to KEF to FRA - how long is the new process taking? We will also have a 6 year old, so not sure if there are seperate lines for kids (I have been some places were <18 cannot go through some of the automated lines) - I have never been through KEF before. Unfortunately the next flight wouldn't be until the next day if we miss our connection.

Icelandair? Single Ticket? Bags checked thru? I imagine that Icelandair has it figured out; else they wouldn’t offer the ticket. Of course, any number of things can go wrong. What options do you have?

Haven’t done the new procedure there. Worst case scenario, Icelandair will take good care of you.

Since this is a brand new thing, I have not been through it yet. Our most recent trip was August. KEF is a very small airport and very easy to get around. If you are on Icelandair, they have those connections down and if this delays you a bit, they will help you out. That is a tough one with no flight until the next day. Been there and done that, and it does make it a bit nerve-racking until you get through it.

sorry - to clarify
iceland air, one ticket, checked bags
I know they have a pretty good system set up and they will take care of me if things go wrong. Under the normal/old system, I feel confident (other than if we experience IROPS) that we should be good to go since they sold me the ticket.

I was mainly interested in how efficient the new system is - as I have heard about significant delays at other EU airports.

RDU to KEF to FRA - the next flight to FRA isn't until later- but they will ticket to CPH to FRA (I think on cityjet or some other partner) - I will keep a list of options "just in case" to provide to them if we need rebooking. We will have a 6 and 76 year old, so really not wanting to run :-)

When are you traveling? Iceland's Air Traffic Controllors have a planned strike called this Friday and Saturday.

I don't mean to be brusque, but what are your other options? Not like you will change your plans, switch airlines, they likely will not alter your itinerary, just go with it and make the best of it. Likely, you will have no problems, with a small chance you will, even without the EES implementation. But in the end, you get to Frankfurt, and you will have a great trip.

@Paul- I get your point - but my thought process. 1. I like to be prepared and have some idea of what to expect and 2. actually I do have other options - I can rebook on another airline ahead of time if I find out that from others experience that I have <50% chance of making the connection. I have two one way tickerts booked with points - coming home on air canada. I have found some other options to Frankfurt for reasonable resumptions, but also they don't fit my plans the best.

I suspect that you probably won't gather much helpful data about the chances of making a connection as there are a lot of variables (timeliness of flights, weather, airport staffing, number of arrivals, etc.). One day it could go smoothly, the next it might not. Given the tight connection and that you are traveling with a child and older adult, I would exercise one of your other options.
