Tours in Iceland that focus on knitting

Hi, Has anyone been on or heard about a tour that targets one or two areas in Iceland with the focus on knitting - providing classes and going to wool knit yarn shops as well as touring an area in Iceland and being with other knitters?

I have googled this topic but do not know anything about the links/tour providers that google provided so I wanted to ask here.
Thanks so much for your help.

I have been to Iceland many times and never heard of this. You might reach out to the Handknitting Association and see what information they may have. I have been to quite a few yarn shops, and you will find those in many of the handicraft stores. Even Netto sells some really nice wool yarn! I have bought quite a bit over my trips and knit at home, but have no idea about tours etc there.

I went to a Handknitting Association shop in Reykjavik, lovely materials (and the price reflected it!). I would definitely contact them for ideas: https://handknitted.is/

This NYT article (gifted so you can get past paywall, good for 30 days) also covers knitting in Iceland https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/16/travel/iceland-knitting.html?unlocked_article_code=1.x04.QGHr.CBTi2Ip7YQvF&smid=url-share

Netto is a discount supermarket. Great place for souvenirs like volcanic salt and candies. I didn't see wool yarn there but it wouldn't surprise me if they had it.

Netto is like Fred Meyer etc where it is a grocery store but also has a bit of clothing and household stuff and quite a large yarn selection. Not all Nettos have yarn so check first. The one in Keflavik has it as does the one in Eglisstadir.

Hi Judith,
I have never heard of a tour specifically designed for knitting, but it is very popular. I visited Iceland in August 2024, and went to several places. There are 2 locations in Rekjavik for the Hand Knitting Association. The location we visited was on Skolavoroustigur Street, just down the hill from Hallgrimskirkja. In Selfoss, we went to a Wool Demonstration, where the lady had a masters degree in wool dying, using the old traditions. She used to make her own yarn, but she dyes her wool using native plants and vegetation. She had several wools on the boil, and had lots of Icelandic woolen crafts, books and wool for sale. The studio is called Hespa. E-mail is [email protected] Tel is 354-8652910. Directions: Hespa or Hespuhúsið. Drive from Reykjavík and just before you come to Selfoss you get to a roundabout and the Toyota shop. There you turn right and drive Árbæjarvegur for about 900 meters. Then you see a sign Hespuhúsið. It was a real treat.
