Tour company for a 5-7 night stopover tour

We would like to do a 5-7 night stopover and are looking for recommendations for a local small group tour company. Also could use a hotel recommendation in Reykjavík. Finally, could you do the Golden Circle and the Snæfellsnes Peninsula in this timeframe or is that really undoable?
Thanks, Jim Sturm, Chicago

Do 7 nights if at all possible. What time of year is this? If it is winter, then a tour is a good idea, but otherwise renting a car is really easy and gives you so much more flexibility. If you do a tour, I really like Troll and we have had good luck with them on a number of excursions with them. I have heard good things about Nice Travel as well, but do not have first hand experience.

Not knowing your budget, these are the places we have stayed in Reykjavik that we liked. Hotel Fron, The Centrum, 45th Floor Hotel, Center Hotel Plaza, Center Hotel Laugavegur, and Center Hotel Midgardur. These are all midrange hotels in walking distance of the main part of downtown.

If you have 7 days, you can do Snaefellsness on up the south coast, if you move at a quick pace. If you want to go slower, do Snaefellsness and the Golden Circle up to perhaps Vik or Westmann Islands.

Snaefellsness really deserves 2 days, so an overnight up there is good. I personally like Stikkisholmur. The Golden Circle is easily done in a day. There are loads of waterfalls along the south coast, and if you make it up to Jokulsarlon then you will have seen some gorgeous sights.

Time of year though makes a big difference. Winter in Iceland is like nothing in the US, so if your trip is basically from October to April, you will want to really consider what you want to do.
