My husband and I (both 70) are arriving on Icelandair at 6am on Monday 5-18 and returning to an airport hotel in evening on Tuesday 5-19 for an early flight on Wed AM. We would like the name of a reputable private transport company. It doesn't have to be fancy. I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Just to clarify, you want private transport, yes? There is a very comfortable bus service.

When we do not rent a car, we use the taxi service called Hreyfill. They have a flat rate into Reykjavík, which is about $180 US. You can book that ahead or just call them when you are walking out of the terminal. They are reputable and reliable. We have used them probably half a dozen times.

We do not want to take the bus as I think that our hotel is a ways from the bus station. We are staying at Local 101 Vesturbaer.

We have stayed at Local 101, and it’s about a 10 min walk from the bus stop. It’s actually pretty simple, but if you have heavy luggage, it may be a challenge. You could take the bus and then a taxi to the hotel as well. Just a thought.

I was also going to suggest taking the Flybus to the bus station and then a taxi to your hotel. It will save you a lot of money.

On your trip from airport to hotel: there should be plenty of taxis available at the airport that you can get on. And the next day when you need to go back to the airport, you should be able to call for a taxi or ask the hotel to do it.
If you want the peace of mind and arrange for a private transfer (i.e. somebody waiting for you at the airport with a sign of your name), then you will likely have to pay for than the 2 separate taxi rides. But if your budget allows, it may make more sense to you.
