Shoes in Iceland

We are going to Iceland in early March. What are the best shoes for me to bring?

I wore good sturdy walking shoes mostly, although I also brought a second pair of lightweight casual shoes that I wore for short walks or going to dinner. Mine are Oboz but any good water-resistant shoes would be good.

Hiking boots or something similar. You need sturdy soles and preferably water proof. I always take my hiking boots no matter what time of year and in most trips I don’t even bring a second pair of footwear.

I was in Iceland for 3 days, 2/21/25 and LOVED my Sorel waterproof boots. They seriously feel like I am wearing tennis shoes. I had purchased in 2020 for another EU trip but these were perfect for the big southcoast tour I did where it was gravel pathways, iced over areas, climbing stairs and crazy wind, snow and rain.

Yes to waterproof boots, also crampons are a must for walking on the ice in early March

Just to clarify , crampons are for mountaineering so the only time you need these is gif a glacier hike and the operator provides those. Microspikes are good if the ice is thick and those are generally only needed for ice cave tours and again operators provide those. Ice cleats or Yaktrax are what you would be looking for. Make sure to size up if you need as they are tough to get on with boots. Note that you fill need to stud them off for entering any business.
