Self-driving Tours/full packages advertised on www.guidetoiceland.is

We are starting to plan our Summer 2025 trip. I found these self-driving tour 'packages' on [www.guidetoiceland.is] and would like to find out if it is any good? The idea sounds great...a full package, including rental car, car insurance, accommodations & day excursions all arranged prior to arrival. The reservation process includes drop-down menu to choose car and type of accommodations. Has anyone used the advertised services on guidetoiceland.is - how would you rate it? Does anyone have other recommendations for similar "packages"

There are multiple travel agencies in Iceland that can put together a full package. We used Nonni Travel out of Akureyri, Iceland, who put together a full package around the entirety of Iceland for us. You just need to do a little research into exactly what you want.

GuidetoIceland is legit and reputable. That said, why not plan it yourself? You will save a LOT of money, and it will be exactly what you want. We have been many times and I always do all the planning and booking myself. If you don't want to do that, another source to look at is Iceland With A View. She is a wealth of knowledge and plans trips for people, for a fee of course. Truly though, booking everything yourself is really easy.

I used this site while planning our trip to Iceland in 2018. It was very helpful and we ended up booking an overnight excursion to the SE coast with a glacier hike thru them. We were very satisfied with our experience. I cannot comment on the self-driving packages as we did not want to drive ourselves.

I've done a "Fly & Drive" through Icelandic Air a few years ago and doing it again in 2025. We traveled in August-September previously and planning on an August travel in 2025. We rented a 4-wheel drive which worked well especially as we explored the Western/Eastern Fjords as well as North Iceland. We also prefer an airbnb or guest house set up which tends to save us money vs. strictly hotel accommodations.

Last July, 2024, friend and I did a self-drive tour, the entire Ring Road and side detours, nearly 2,000 miles. We used Nordic Visitor. Airport transfers, mid-size car, hotel reservations and some day tours. Very well planned and all delivered as promised. We got a large Iceland map with our specific tour clearly highlighted. Guide book, again with our tour plans all highlighted. We had a personal agent from the time we reserved, and often spoke with her by telephone as we developed our specific plans. Nordic Visitor offers numerous options for practically every day, so the trip can really be designed to fit your tastes.

While I initially thought the package was a bit expensive, when I did some hotel searches on my own and saw prices if I booked on my own, and certainly once in Iceland, I realized Iceland was expensive and thus the package tour actually seemed quite reasonable. I do not hesitate to recommend Nordic Visitor.
