Reynisfjara Beach erosion

I saw this story being discussed in another forum, and I thought it might be of interest here, too: the famous Reynisfjara Beach on Iceland’s South Coast har suffered severe erosion, making it difficult to visit.

A news story I saw mentioned that this has happened before, and the beach emerged again later, but anyone hoping to go in the near future may find their visit quite limited.

We have been there many times and each time it feels different, depending on how rough the seas are, the season etc. We head back in a couple of weeks and as much as I would like to see first hand how it is now, I also don't want to intrude on a place that the owners are trying to figure things out.

I did see photos of people that had crossed the barrier to get to the water. One video I could barely watch as the people were so incredibly reckless.

I too have read that this has happened before, but on a much smaller scale. Only time will tell what nature has in store. This is Iceland though, and nature is so powerful. You will see when you go.
