Is it feasible to leave Reykjavik in the am, tour the Golden Circle and end the day with a ferry to the Westmans for the night? Any advice about this plan? It would be our day 2 of an 18 day self-drive trip.

I guess it depends on how much of the Golden Circle you want to see and if you actually are going to get out of your car and explore. When we were there we did a bus tour out of Reykjavik and it took 10 hours round trip. If I were doing your trip I'd spend the night in Selfoss or Hella before pushing on to the ferry to Westman Islands.
