Restaurants in Reykjavik

Looking for restaurant recommendations in Reykjavik - considering the Seabaron for lunch (lobster soup) and Messinn for dinner during our 4 day stay. Maybe something causal for lunch and seafood for dinner. Also would you recommend one of the city’s food halls?
Thx, Jim S.

We really liked the Brass Kitchen & Bar on Laugavegur, and the Reykjavik kitchen is excellent - we ate there on two different trips. Enjoy!

Both of those are excellent. Messinn has been our favorite restaurant for several years. Torfan is really good and directly across the road from Messinn. ROK is small plates and very good and fun to try a real variety of dishes. Saeta Svinid Gastropub is really good too. Sjavargrilld is another favorite. Honestly there are so many and I will say we have never had a bad meal in Iceland.

I recommend taking a food tour to get a sample of a wide variety of options. I did one with Your Friend in Reykjavik and it was great (and very filling). Don't forget to have a hot dog with all the toppings, they really are quite good (I don't ever eat them at home).

I second the recommendation for a food tour! It's a great way to taste some Icelandic classics and get great recommendations in a city crowded with good restaurants.

When I was there last year, Forrettabarinn by the Old Harbour was excellent and by far my best meal in Reykjavik (though I didn't have a single bad one). The horse is extremely good.
